Canadian born artist Ken Joudrey grew up on the east coast of Nova Scotia and started painting at age 8 or 9.  In 1979 he moved to Pasadena where he attended the Art Center College of Design.  From there, he moved to New York City to illustrate book covers for publishing companies such as Simon and Schuster, HarperCollins, and St. Martin’s Press.  Among his designs were covers for Barbara Kingsolver’s best selling The Bean Trees, Larry McMurtry’s Leaving Cheyenne, and British author Jack Higgin’s Memoirs of a Dance Hall Romeo.

After marrying, Ken and his wife moved to her hometown of San Diego County where he has continued his successful career as an illustrator. He painted the signature artwork for The Art of Food & Wine’s inaugural year based on his knowledge of the area.  He included the flora and fauna of the area as well as agriculture and golf in the design, but his main focus was the beauty,  like the snow-capped mountains. His paintings are quickly recognizable by the beautiful saturated colors and the moods he conveys.

Ken currently teaches at Palomar College and is President of the San Diego Society of Illustrators, an office he has held for the past four years.
