Elaine Harvey works in transparent watercolor, acrylic, and mixed media in a style which combines realistic and abstract elements. Using traditional and experimental approaches and the innate properties of her chosen medium, she creates innovative paintings and collages. Her more than 70 awards in major shows include those of the American Watercolor Society, Rocky Mountain
Watermedia Society, San Diego Watercolor Society’s International, and Watercolor West. Her paintings and observations on painting have appeared repeatedly in and on the cover of The Artist’s Magazine and in a number of books and articles by her fellow artists and arts writers. Jury assignments have included National Watercolor Society and many civic and art society competitions throughout the United States. Elaine is an honor graduate of San Diego State University, and has studied with a number of noted painters. She has been elected to membership in Allied Artists of America, Artist’s Guild of San Diego Museum of Art, and holds signature membership in the National Watercolor Society, Rocky Mountain Watermedia Society, San Diego Watercolor Society, Western Federation of Watercolor Societies and Watercolor West. She lives in El Cajon California and teaches classes for the Athenaeum and for the University of California San Diego Extension, both in La Jolla, as well as for art organizations everywhere. Her paintings appear in public and private collections throughout the United States.
“The sights around me and the images and thoughts in my head guide my hand as I apply the paint, and the flowing paint evokes new images, relationships, and truths which become a part of the art. Each painting is a combination of past experience and present discovery.“
