Artist's Statement:

First and foremost I think of myself as an abstract artist even though I paint representationally.  My interest lies in the emotional response viewers perceive through design, color, edges, textures and abstract shapes.  Secondly, I am concerned with light.  I look for the play of light on a shape whether it is a figure, landscape or building.  I am interested in how light illuminates form, creates space and describes atmosphere.  Finally I am interested in subject matter.  I place this last because I will paint anything that I am moved to paint but my first priority is the subject’s abstract quality and it’s relationship to light.
