PAINTOUT SATURDAY NOVEMBER 10   We are going to try again in Descanso!  The weather better be good!  Drew Bandish has generously given his November spot to Keiko Tanabe due to the disappointment we all had with the cancellation last month.  Thank you Drew--he will be there too!  Hopefully everyone who was bringing goodies will still do so to go with the coffee I will be brewing.  Also for the future if there is any question of a paintout issue please check your email first thing in the morning!  I usually leave my house by seven and will sent out an email before that the morning of the paintout.  I can’t call all of you as I send out over four hundred emails.
Summer is winding down and our beautiful So-Cal fall is just beginning. It’s the perfect time to take our Saturday November 10  paintout to Descanso!  We have again been invited to the horse ranch and home of my friend Janis Abbamonte.  Her house is nestled in the oaks and pine trees of Descanso.  She currently has eight horses, corrals, barns, a tractor, old fences and rustic items that we can use for our painting inspiration!  Janis truly loves to have us come paint at her ranch and she really enjoys watching the demo and all of us paint.  She is always amazed at how different we all express the beauty of Descanso.

Our featured demo artist is world famous Keiko Tanabe!  Keiko travels the world presenting watercolor workshops.  We are lucky to have her here in San Diego.  Keiko was born in Kyoto, Japan.  Her initial education was international communication and then she went on to get  a masters degree in international education at UCLA.  Keiko worked in international relation positions for a Japanese government trade organization in Tokyo,  a law firm in San Francisco and a private consulting firm in San Diego.

In 2003 the artist in Keiko took over and she started her journey of becoming a renowned artist.  She started with basic drawing and watercolor classes at a local community college.  Keiko started her professional career in 2005 and began exhibiting her watercolors.  That same year Keiko took a workshop from Alvaro Castagnet and learned the enjoyment of plein air painting!  From this point on her paintings have been juried into exhibitions across the Americas, Asia and Europe. Keiko has achieved the pinnacle of being an award winning watercolor artist, juror and watercolor educator!  Her watercolors are in private and corporate collections around the world.  To find out more about Keiko Tanabe and view her watercolors go to:

DIRECTIONS TO:  9935 Oak Grove Drive, Descanso
Take 8 EAST,  to exit 40 CA79 to Descanso, LEFT on Japatul Valley Road, Left on Riverside Drive, Quick sharp Left onto Viejas Blvd., Right onto Oak Grove Drive, destination is on the right.  It’s easy to find and I plan on putting signs out to help guide you there.

Plan on being at the ranch for most of the day.  Bring a lunch and plenty of drinking water.  It is in the mountains and can be cold and hot so be prepared!  All levels of artists are welcomed and encouraged to attend.  The demo will start promptly at 9AM with the critique at 12:30PM.  I will bring coffee for everyone and it would be appreciated if a couple of you would bring some donuts, muffins and or bagels to share with everyone.  Please let me know so I can plan for it.  The busy part of the year is quickly approaching so treat yourself to this special, relaxing and magical paintout!  After all, the MORE you GO the MORE you GROW!

If you have never been to a paint out, you've been missing the convivial atmosphere of artists painting and sketching together.
The ncsfa paint outs are relaxed, with no pressure to produce. There is a vast skill range; some artists are professionals and others
are on page one of their first sketchbook, yet at paint out events we share a common experience. Everyone does their own thing;
bring your own supplies and a chair. This is a great way to meet other artists. We especially welcome newcomers.

Informal Critique
Limit of one to two works in progress paintings please. (No wet paintings please).
Suggested RSVP to Doris Bertch

Everyone comes away with great suggestions is a very constructive, enriching and supportive environment.
